Reading/Literature

  • 8th Grade
I have many jobs at St. Bernard School but my favorite is eighth grade reading teacher. I love to read and share my love of literature with them. Some of my other jobs are IT coordinator, data team member, website coordinator and general all-around helper. When I am not in school, I love to read and spend time with my family (my husband and our two daughters). I am an ardent supporter of Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball and attend as many games as I can with my daughter.

Syllabus for 8th Grade Reading

We are ending our study of Edgar Allan Poe by writing a poem in the style of “The Raven” using the events from the short story “The Tell Tale Heart”.  Stay tuned for some great poetry.  One highlight of our study was watching “The Raven” episode from “The Simpsons”.  During the study, students learned about rhyming patterns, repetition, stanzas and rhythm.  We compared syllables in lines to identify ways to have rhythm in poetry.

Example stanzas from several students

  • I open his door slow

    Very stealthily too

    I feel my joy grow

    As my heart rate grew

  • They came to question me, so I let them in

But they wouldn’t suspect a thing, for a tale I would spin

I was soon interrupted by a light pound

Then I knew it was a heartbeat in the ground

  • They came to question me, so I let them in

But they wouldn’t suspect a thing, for a tale I would spin

I was soon interrupted by a light pound

Then I knew it was a heartbeat in the ground
